Our workshop has one of the only Gemstone cutters on the premises in Sydney; so we are able to offer the service of repairing or repolishing of damaged stones to you. Also should you have that piece of rough stone we cut it into a sparkling gemstone.
As a Gemmologist and gemstone cutter for over 30 years, my best advice when buying a coloured natural gemstone is to follow the same guide lines as if you were to be choosing a diamond. Colour, cut and clarity. If when looking at a stone under daylight the stone appears 'to look at you' and you are not searching for colour and the stone is clear the chances are that the stone is good.(Assuming it has been certified as natural with all treatments disclosed)
To understand coloured stones, knowledge about their formation in nature and their Physical and optical qualities is a prerequisite. Many stone varieties come in an abundance of colours and some have some very special effects such as colour change or colour banding, and they also have optical effects such as Asterism or chatoyancy.
If you need to know more about stones, from opals to beryls, tourmalines, spinels, quartzes, garnets, in fact any gemstone species from ornamental stones, semi precious stones to rare and precious stones just call me and I will be glad to assist.
Different cutting styles can bring out the true beauty in a stone, set this in a unique setting for that special piece. Gemstones also have special optical effects such as asterism or chatoyancy.
